With compelling scientific visuals I aspire to teach and encourage learning. I hope excitement while learning leads to deeper understanding, sparks curiosity, and the desire to spread the newfound knowledge to others.
Growing up in Alaska fostered a love of nature and inspired me to go into the field of scientific illustration. After undergraduate and graduate degrees in the field I completed the qualifications to become a board Certified Medical Illustrator (CMI). My goal is to bring my scientific and medical illustration passion and background to web3.
During my career I have collaborated with experts from many fields who work at museums, universities, hospitals, and private practices to help them communicate their messages visually. Each commission is an exciting opportunity to learn a new concept and determine how to best teach it through illustration. Some of my favorite work is for museums because the audience tends to be eager to learn and their ages and education levels are diverse. This work allows me to use illustrations to first engage and excite the viewer about the concept and then expand with incorporated text. I was commissioned by a university’s mobile museum to illustrate the pangolin’s peculiar anatomical features for their pangolin exhibit. This exhibit was parked at schools throughout Iowa for students to learn more about this unique animal that is critically endangered due to poaching. I enjoyed both the academic exploration into their anatomy and the resulting education to the public.
With NFTs I have enjoyed connecting with a worldwide network of artists, learners, and collectors. Through this network I have found support to create the scientific artwork that flows out of me. This allows me to work on topics of my own choosing instead of only commissioned work. I have enjoyed both the art creation, as well as the exploration of the new technology, specifically customizing art generation code. My interactions with my collectors have reignited my creative spirit and through their support I am growing as an artist. I plan to continue to release scientific artwork, experiment with emerging technologies and, through the power of web3, build a network of science-loving enthusiasts.
